Lunar and Solar Eclipses

An eclipse takes place when the Moon is new or full, when it is aligned with the Sun and the Earth in the plane of the ecliptic (2):when the Moon is new it is an eclipse of the Sun and when the Moon is full it is an eclipse of the Moon. When the line of the lunar nodes intersects the Earth’s

plane of rotation around the Sun and the Moon’s plane of rotation around the Earth (1), an eclipse will take place if the node coincides with the New Moon or the Full Moon.
